This is why I've been so distracted and not posting much anymore

Over the last six months or more, we have noticed that my mom has not been herself. She has been having minor memory issues, a little difficulty getting her point across in conversations and she has been excessively tired. At first we just chalked it up to all of the changes in her life during the last year (she retired, among other things), but when things continued to get worse, we finally realized that something more was wrong. She had an appointment this week with a memory loss specialist and is now under his care. They are running some tests and hopefully we will have some answers, or at least a starting point, soon.

Hopefully, now that we are getting close to a diagnosis, I will be more able to concentrate more on posting. I am amazed at how emotionally draining this whole process has been. Next week should be back to normal at "The Book Lady Online".

Lori,

I hope your mom will be ok. I'll keep her (and you too!) in my prayers.

You and your family have been in my prayers. It can be so many things, many like dehydration or vitamin deficiency that are easily treated. I will pray for wisdom for the doctors and answers for your mother.

My dd has had memory problems, fuzzy thinking, and blanks all summer, through testing we found out that she has Hashimoto's. She has been on meds for 2 weeks and she is finally back. We were joking today that we should throw a welcome home party for her. :-)

Alea and Paula,

Thank you so much for your prayers.

Alea, I am so glad you all discovered your daughter's illness. What a relief, that must be to have her back to her old self. The doctors are checking my mom for all sorts of things (including thryoid function, though she already takes replacement hormones because she is hypothyroid). I'm convinced her problems are diet related (NO veggies, mostly carbs and highly processed) and I feel strongly that if we can fix her diet, we can at least stop the decline she has been experiencing. Of course that's much harder than it may sound, lol.
